What we stand for

Founded in 2019, Omek is a membership-based community connecting biculturals of African descent with each other, with brands, and resources.

Based in Amsterdam with global outreach, our process is two-fold. First, we create programs and events that make connecting and collaborating simple within biculturals of African descent and allies. We then work with partners to bring insight and access to a diverse talent pool, providing the tools for sustained growth.

Join our team

We are looking for candidates who understand and live Omek values, and have a track record of success in improving marketing, implementing new processes or procedures, and creating an environment for collaboration and innovative thinking. We are building something new, and exciting, and we genuinely believe our community has the power to change the world.

Omek is entering its scaling phase and seeks a passionate marketing guru to lead communications across all external channels. As we scale from 2,000 to 10,000 members, you'll play a pivotal role in driving brand awareness, member signups, and audience engagement.

The role will split across different areas and will be responsive to needs. You have a high autonomy to shape and drive processes, ensuring organization and quality. You will be collaborating closely with our team distributed across the world.

Location is flexible, but working within the Central European time zone is required. This role is part-time (16 hours per week) for three months starting in 2025. This is a paid, freelance position with the possibility of an extension.

Apply if you love

  • Crafting beautiful and scalable campaigns: You will be responsible for the editorial and marketing comms calendar and managing multiple campaigns across Instagram and LinkedIn. This involves writing and editing copy, creating assets (with Canva templates), creating briefs for freelancers, providing feedback and elevating quality, and working with different team members from community and events to ensure that project milestones are met. These efforts will contribute to not just growing our newsletter list and social following but also to implementing strategies that build long-term, scalable growth.

  • Spotlighting and growing the community: You'll work with our Community Lead to identify and showcase some of the people, projects, ideas, and conversations on our digital platform. You'll also work with community members to promote several community initatives like Meetups and Omek Room.

  • Selling out events: You will be responsible for overseeing event and program comms from start to finish and have an understanding of our audience’s values, purchasing psychology, and can think creatively if a campaign is not resonating. We want the community to know about Omek and participate and become an active community member.

  • Optimizing and scaling processes: You will be responsible for identifying areas of improvement and implementing processes to improve our marketing performance. Ex: monitoring newsletters open, click through and conversion rates, social media engagement, implementing SEO direction, Google Analytics metrics, and experimentation.

Preferred skills include

Your role involves multiple responsibilities as you work alongside the team leadership. Your past experiences have taught you how to think strategically and execute efficiently and independently. We are looking for someone who can envision the future and is an absolute doer as well.

  • Experience: We are looking for a mid to senior individual who has worked 4+ years in a company and/or community in communications alongside multinational brands. Ideally, you've had experience working in a startup or agency. As the role evolves we would love to lean on your expertise around business marketing, reviewing decks, and growing partnerships.

  • Leadership skills: You have experience managing teams and can demonstrate strong leadership qualities, including owning projects, delegating tasks effectively, and leading by example. You will be overseeing freelancers and team members across several different projects.

  • Communication skills: You communicate effectively with team members, community members, and partners, and can present information clearly and persuasively. This role requires kindness, generosity, listening, and empathy.
